It has been revealed that the leader of the newly formed political party, Young Democratic Party [YDP] ,Henry Nwabueze, is a personal relation of President Goodluck Jonathan. Making the revelation in Abuja, the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organization, Malam Garba Shehu, said the man is the President’s personal biographer.
It would be recalled that YDP which claims to have gotten a court order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission[INEC], to certify it as a registered political party in the country, is yet to attain that status. In a twist of faith, INEC claimed that it had not been served with any such order of court.
Tongues have continued to wad, regarding the motive of the promoters of the new party which appeared on the scene at a time the INEC had concluded arrangements on the production of its sensitive electoral material. The YDP which will be having its National convention later this month, is insisting that its name and yet to emerge candidates, must be on the ballot.
An inside source within the party told The NICHE that the YDP Presidential flag bearer may very likely be the President of the Arewa Youths Forum, Alhaji Shetima Yerima.
Speaking on the new party and its possible motive, Mallam Garba said that the party is being fronted by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party[PDP]. ”We all know that that party is PDP by another name. I am told that the Chairman of that new party, is actually the author or publisher of President Goodluck Jonathan’ biography. So it is like he is a personal biographer and that they have branched out to form a new party which we are told they are planning their national convention by March 13”, he said.
Continuing, he said “so when they do that, two days to the election, they will go to court and say they are having candidate to fill for the Presidential election. Some times when you reflect on all these things, you will think that Nigeria will—because the way they are running this country, if care is not taken, we are headed to the call for yet another postponement”.
On INEC’s verdict of Card reader test run, he said “our party has spoken, APC has spoken and we stand by what the leadership of the party has said.
“You know, everybody who lives in this country knows that it is the PDP that doesn’t want the card reader. It is PDP that doesn’t want Jega, it is PDP that doesn’t want election that is audited. They are used to elections in which the results were written. When people are queuing at the polling centres, idiotically, result sheets are taken to Government houses and the results are filled in there.
“So we understand the game. They will fight. It is not over yet. In spite of all that has been said, between 16 and 23, Jega may still fall because that is the only way for them. In any case, haven’t you heard one or two governors saying that heavens will not fall if Jiga is removed? That is just saying that you and I, Nigerians don’t matter”.
