The Supreme Court on Monday, July 10, 2017, upheld the election victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.
In an unanimous judgment, a seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, dismissed appeal that was lodged by gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the September 28, 2016 governorship election in Edo State, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The apex court court panel held that both interlocutory and main Appeal Ize-Iyamu lodged before it lacked merit.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court said that it would on July 24, give reasons why it validated the election of Obaseki, who emerged on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
