The immediate past governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said that he was going to Kano at the weekend for his son’s wedding Fatiha.
This is contrary to popular opinion that the mission to Kano State this weekend is political.
Those already invited to attend the event of the ex-governor’s first son, Ibrahim Babangida Aliyu, a banker, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubarkar, and the former Speaker, House of Representatives, now Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwwal.
Making the clarifications in a statement by his Media Aide, Israel Ebije, the former governor argued that to get a wife for his son without informing the host Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the former CBN Governor and the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, would rather sound absurd.
He said that many politicians had indicated interest to attend and rejoice with the family and therefore appealed to those insinuating political distractions against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to desist from their evil thoughts.
The statement in part reads, “My attention has been drawn to a rumour alleging that I am convening a political gathering in Kano ahead of 2019 Presidential election. I am only working on my son’s wedding plans scheduled to hold this Saturday.
“I have only extended invitations to friends and associates as it is customary in our society. There is no political undertone or coloration to my mission to Kano as is being insinuated.”
The former governor of Niger State, who is known for his crowd pulling tendencies, said that it was wrong for anyone to insinuate that his visiting Kano has to do with political re-alignment instead of playing fatherly role to his banker son, Ibrahim, who is taking a wife from Kano.
“Those behind this rumour do not have the interests of the country at heart. It is indeed unfair to wrap around false claims on a harmless social event as marriage of my son because the rumour is tantamount to distracting governance at the centre”.
