Former chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu, has highlighted the needed ingredients that will ensure peaceful and smooth elections next year.

While speaking in Lagos on Wednesday on a topic “Nigeria Democracy: Getting It Right in 2015” at the second anniversary of the Realnews, an online publication, he outlined five factors even as he expressed optimism that the current tension over the elections would come to pass.
According to him, to make the 2015 elections free and fair there is the need to curb violence before, during and after elections; reduce the pervasive influence of money in politics and promote internal democracy within the parties.
He also suggested that there is the need to enhance women participation in politics as well as the essence to have a changed mindset about INEC, noting that people’s perception about the institution has always been wrong.
