Umeh tasks Uduaghan on free, fair council polls

Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term and urged all Nigerians to back him to top up his “unprecedented achievements” in infrastructure, agriculture, security, and electoral reform.

State APGA Chairman, Anthony Ebunka, made the plea when the party’s National Chairman, Victor Umeh, welcomed about 7,000 defectors from the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Banner for national cause

Ebunka said “APGA is for the advancement of our national system and we respect true democracy; APGA is open to all. We will feature candidates in all elective positions who are ready to work for the people, irrespective of where they come from.

“We commend the transformation agenda and unprecedented achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in infrastructure, agriculture, security, one man one vote system.

“And in line with our great party’s position, we in Delta State endorse Mr. President for the 2015 presidential election.”

Ebunka called on Deltans to support APGA so that when Umeh visits next time, it would be to inaugurate a member of the party as governor and others in office at all levels of government countrywide.

APGA promises good governance

Umeh added that APGA will provide good governance in all parts of Nigeria, stressing that he was among delegates to the national conference who fought for the creation of Anioma State from the present Delta.

“We are planting the seed of APGA in Delta State and this seed will become the mustard seed that will grow to become a big tree. APGA will take over Delta State, we are coming here to form government in Asaba,” he enthused.

Umeh pledged that APGA will give the state a good governor and “fight for you, we want to protect your interest. We are here to help you; we will win six council seats at the local government polls.

Reason for defection

“I want to tell Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, please this forthcoming election, starting with the LG, nobody should tamper with the results, and anybody who wins should be declared the winner.”

A founding member of the APC, Anthony Azuaya, who led members of the party to the defection rally at Oshimili South Arcade in Asaba, said the party lacks internal democracy and is different from what the founding fathers envisioned.

His words: “We were those who brought the APC to Delta State but at the end of the day I don’t know what happened. Some people felt that they know more than the others and they didn’t give room for any other people to come in.

“So, we decided to look for a different platform to pursue our political ambition.”

Azuaya promised that if elected to House of Representatives he will continue “the good work” which he started with his education endowment for youths and foundation for old people.

In his view, the majority facing problems in the country are youths who should be given more attention.
