A Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State has sentenced a 75-year-old man, Boyi Okoiyawo, to seven years without an option of fine for defiling a 10-year-old girl, Hauwa.
An anti-rape, child defilement and molestation group, BraveHeart Initiative (BHI), reported the case to the police.
Okoiyawo was charged in the case number MIG/26c/2017 before Chief Magistrate Nosa Musoe, who described him as not truthful and lacked integrity.
The incident occurred in April 2017 when the victim was said to be heading to her mother’s shop. She was lured by the 75-year-old man to his house under the guise of sending her on errands. The victim was said to have been repeatedly defiled by the convict until her father, with the help of a neighbour, rescued her.
Examinations conducted by the Chief Medical Director of the General Hospital, Igarra revealed that the victim was sexually assaulted. Hauwa’s father, John, said he was pleased with Okoiyawo’s conviction.
His words: “I am very happy with the judgement on Boyi Okoiyawo, who defiled my daughter about a year and some months ago. The many court adjournments could not weaken my resolve to have justice and I’m happy that the court finally found Boyi guilty and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment without fine.”
