Gunmen killed three policemen and three civilians during an attack on some foreign workers in the Guba Shango axis of Gombe State on Saturday at about 9pm.
A security source said the attackers trailed the workers from a construction site to their quarters, adding that those killed lost their lives while trying to repel the attackers.
“Someone must have given them information, because they trailed the workers from a site where they were excavating coal to their quarters, opposite Ganja School, here in the state capital,” the source said.
“Three policeman and three local guards were killed during a gun-battle. They were not kidnappers because even after overpowering the security personnel, they did not abduct the workers.
“One cannot really say if they were armed robbers or Boko Haram members.”
Fwaje Atajiri, police spokesman in the state, refused to comment on the incident.
He ended a phone conversation abruptly and refused to answer his phone afterwards.
Atajiri did not also reply the text message sent to him as at the time this report was filed.
