5 feared killed as NURTW factions clash

-

Five persons were feared killed early yesterday at Oshodi, Lagos in a clash between factional members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) over who should control the motor park.

Witnesses said there were gun shots in the area since Tuesday night, prompting traders at the popular Oshodi market to close their shops.

At 11 am yesterday when Daily Trust visited the scene, pieces of broken bottles used by the factions littered the roads.

Passers-by and motorists were also attacked while many were robbed.

Guns, machetes, daggers, broken bottles, charms and other dangerous weapons were freely used during the fracas.
