4 former commissioners make Abdulrazaq’s list of new commissioner-nominees

The four former commissioners are Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu (Ilorin South),Senior Suleiman (Ilorin West), Olaitan Buraimo (Oyun), Aliyu Sabi (Baruten).

Four of the commissioners that served with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state in his first term have been renominated to serve again in his second term.

The governor, who has become the third to be elected for a second term in the state, included the names of the former commissioners in the list of the commissioner-nominees he forwarded to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.

In the list read by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, are also 12 other nominees who will be serving in the governor’s cabinet for the fist time if their nominations are confirmed.

The four former commissioners are Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu (Ilorin South), Senior Suleiman (Ilorin West), Olaitan Buraimo (Oyun), Aliyu Sabi (Baruten)

The Speaker, while reading to his colleagues the governor’s letter to which the list was attached at the plenary on Monday, said that the governor complied with section 14, subsection 4 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and section 192, subsection 125 of the constitution.

Other people on the nominees list include Abdulganiyu Abdulazeez, (Asa), Sheu Ndanusa (Edu), Afolasade Kemi (Ekiti) and Dr Segun Ogunsola (Ifelodun)

They also include Abdulqowiy Olododo (Ilorin East), Hauwa Nuru (Ilorin West), Damilola Yusuf (Isin), Oloruntosin Thomas (Isin), and Bola Olukoju (Irepodun).

Also in the list are Abubakar Abdullahi (Kaiama), John Bello (Moro), Amina Al-Imam (Offa), Mary Ayinde (Oke-Ero), and Usman Yinusa (Patigi).

The speaker directed all the nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae to the office of the Clerk before the close of work on Tuesday, August 15 for the screening to commence on August 16.

The House also approved the governor’s request for the appointment of 10 Special Advisers following a letter received and read also at the plenary.

Abdulrazaq, in the letter, while noting that the action is in accordance with section 196 Subsection 1 of the Constitution said that the appointment of loyal and committed, individuals with right experience and acumen to serve will facilitate smooth and hitch free governance.

The governor said this was desirable for distribution of dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of Kwara.

Also, the House has urged Gov. AbdulRazaq to direct the state Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to liaise with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, to urgently embark on a statewide vaccination of livestock with Anthrax spore vaccine.

This was sequel to a motion on notice titled “Need for Urgent Control of Community Spread of Anthrax Pandemic in Kwara State” sponsored by Razaq Owolabi, (APC/ Share/Oke-Ode).

The House implored the State Government to direct the Ministry of Communication to embark on massive public awareness and sensitization of the citizens.

They said the citizens need to be sensitised on the need to practice and maintain personal and environmental hygiene as well as proper disposal of dead animals in other to present outbreak of Anthrax disease in the state.

The lawmakers also stressed the need for both ministries to improve surveillance on activities of cattle rearers and butchers by ensuring that quarantine officers of federal, state and local government are alive to their responsibilities.

In their various contributions, the legislators who took turn to speak on symptoms, infection and treatment of Anthrax called for concerted efforts to prevent its outbreak in Kwara.
