Crises in N’West: Govs meet to curb poor education, cattle rustling, others

-

All the governors from the seven North-West states have pledged at their Forum meeting in Katsina to resolve collectively political issues affecting their respective states.

The governors made the resolution in their communique signed by Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State.

The governors from the seven North West states of Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa and Zamfara attended except Kaduna who was represented by his deputy, Bala Bantex.

Although the forum was silent on the recent altercation between former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his successor Abdullahi Ganduje, the resolution may not be unconnected with the political crisis rearing its head in the state.

In the two-page communique after the Forum’s meeting in Katsina, the governors resolved to cooperate and ensure unity among the states “so as to forge ahead in the wake of the monumental challenges”.

According to the communique, the Forum also “resolved to mobilise all major stakeholders in the zone on issues of general development” even as it reaffirmed its stand on addressing the vices of armed robbery, cattle rustling, poor educational standards and almajiris”.

It pledged to explore other avenues to harness the vast natural resources left untapped in the zone so as to boost its revenue in view of the dwindling revenue from the Federation Account.

As should be expected, the Forum declared its support for the efforts of the President in revamping the economy, and the current war against corruption and insecurity.
