Armed cattle rustlers in Zamfara State have gone viral with their cattle raids and attacks on cattle herdsmen and owners during the three-months’ period between November, 2015 and January, 2016, killing 76 people in the three local governments of Tsafe, Bungudu and Maru.
They also stole about 704,303 livestock and dispossessed or injured at least 13,605 persons in the zone over the period.
Mr Tanimu Thickman, acting Head of Operations, Sokoto zonal office of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) responsible for Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, told journalists in the state correspondents chapel that NEMA coordinates the efforts of rescue teams and render assistance where necessary.
“From our records, between November, last year and January, this year, the armed cattle rustlers have killed 23 people in Maru LG, injured many with about 5 sustaining gunshot wounds. They carted away about 704,303 livestock and a total of 13,605 person were affected,” Thickman said.
