The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has given ThisDay publisher, Nduka Obaigbena two weeks’ ultimatum to refund the N670 million he collected from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for no contract.
Obaignena was granted administrative bail by EFCC after he agreed to return the money he got from former NSA Sambo Dasuki to the treasury.
In a letter to EFCC, Obaigbena had said ex-president Goodluck Jonathan agreed with the media owners during a meeting at Marina, Lagos to pay the sum as compensation to his paper and other media owners in Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) as alternative resolution compensation instead of litigation for the bombing of his newspaper houses by Boko Haram and the seizure of copies of many newspapers by the military.
Obaigbena was quizzed for two days after he turned himself in to EFCC on return from abroad.
“The EFCC has given Obaigbena a maximum of two weeks to refund the amount he collected from ONSA. He signed an undertaking to refund the N670 million. The anti-graft commission has also granted him an administrative bail.”
