Olisa Metuh remanded in Kuje Prison on fresh EFCC charge

-

Two days after Chief Olisa Metuh, spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was granted a N400 million bail by a Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Ishaq Bello of the same court, has ordered that he be remanded in Kuje Prison.

Bello gave the order in a ruling on fresh two-count charge of destruction of evidence which  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought against him on Thursday, two days after he got the bail to be guaranteed by two sureties with properties in Maitama area of Abuja.

Metuh has been very critical of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal government’s anti-corruption war, lambasting it as biased, selective and planned to decimate the opposition PDP while being protective of corrupt APC leaders; he has maintained his innocence and described his trial as a political witch-hunt.

EFCC accused Metuh of destroying a statement he made during investigation, an allegation he denied, and pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.

After pleading not guilty to the charges, Sylvanus Tahir, counsel to EFCC asked the court for more time to enable his team present evidence against Metuh.

In his ruling, Bello asked the agency to produce three witnesses at the next sitting. He also ordered that Metuh, who is yet to fulfill his bail condition in the previous case, be remanded in prison until Monday when application for his bail would be heard.
