2face Idibia, Waje, Timi Dakolo and Patoranking have been announced as coaches for the maiden edition of the Airtel sponsored The Voice Nigeria.
Unveiled on Tuesday at The George Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos, the announcement of the coaches comes as preparations for the show reached fever pitch following talent auditions in Calabar, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos.
Speaking at the press conference, Director, M-Net West Africa, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said that The Voice may be an internationally renowned franchise consistently providing exciting television content while giving great opportunities to talented individuals to showcase their talent to the world but the Nigerian edition is a very Nigerian platform.
Explaining that it is an exciting time at M-Net, she said the Nigerian adaptation will be no different and viewers can expect the best television entertainment as the next generation of talented singers are set to be discovered.
“We have a lot of passion for this industry and we are making sure that those who have something to offer have a platform to showcase their talent,” she said.
She went on to announce the coaches and only Patoranking could not make it to the press conference venue.
Since its original launch in 2010, The Voice has won audiences in countries like the US, Australia, South Africa and the UK, where other renowned artistes have occupied the show’s famous red chairs as coaches. The Voice Nigeria employs the same format including a panel of four coaches who critique the contestants’ performances. The coaches guide their teams of selected artistes through the remainder of the season whilst also competing to ensure that their act wins the competition.
Timi Dakolo said at the gathering that once upon a time he was looking for a platform to express himself and then came Idols West Africa.
“A lot of people are looking for a platform and this is a good opportunity for them to shine,” he said.
2face said it is going to be a very amazing show “and we being the coaches it is going to be very exciting for us to listen to the people and tell them what to do. I am excited to be here and looking forward to the show”.
For Waje this is such a blessing and an honour.
“It is such a great thing when you have a platform like this one that is encouraging people to do music,” she said.
