An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 22-year-old, Abimbola Azeez, in Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing a man to death with a dagger.
The Magistrate, Mr A.O. Komolafe, said the accused should be remanded pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The prosecutor, ASP Elizabeth Ekuma, had told the court that the offence was committed on May 3 at about 12.15 a.m. at God’s Own Estate, Ijanikin, Lagos.
He said while the deceased, Tochukwu Ezike, was returning home in the wee-hours of May 3, Azeez attacked him.
“While trying to dispossess him of his belongings, Azeez used a dagger to stab him on his stomach and mouth before killing him.’’
The offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 221 prescribes a life sentence for offenders.
The case has been adjourned to June 29 for DPP’s advice. (NAN)
