Registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) has not begun yet, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified, to disabuse candidates of false information.

A statement JAMB posted on its official handle on X (Twitter) on Wednesday advised prospective candidates to begin preparation by securing their National Identification Number (NIN) and a unique phone number.

“You can get your NIN ahead and a phone number that has not been previously used to register on our platform to generate your profile code prior to the time,” the statement said.

JAMB also unveiled The Lekki Headmaster written by Kabir Alabi Garba as the recommended reading text for the 2025 UTME Use of English paper.

“Attention prospective 2025 UTME candidates! This is to inform you that The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba has been approved as the reading text for the Use of English.

“Details on the UTME/DE registration shall be released shortly. Kindly be on the lookout for updates.”

JAMB encouraged candidates to familiarise themselves with the text to enhance their preparation, and directed its staff to update their profiles or register afresh in preparation for the examination.

JAMB in its latest bulletin stressed the importance of compliance to avoid breaches of protocol during the examination process, saying details on the registration timeline and guidelines will be released soon.

“Candidates are advised to stay updated via JAMB’s official platforms,” it added.

Oshiomhole berates JAMB for fleecing students, spending N1.1b on meals and refreshments in one year alone

Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North) on Monday grilled JAMB) over its spending in 2024, noting a huge N1.1 billion spent on meals and refreshments, N600 million on local travel, among other curious items.

Oshiomhole raised concerns during JAMB’s 2025 budget defence before the National Assembly (NASS) Joint Committee on Finance.

He asked JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede, a professor, to justify N850 million spent on security, cleaning, and fumigation in 2024.

“You spent N1.1 billion on meals and refreshments. Are you being freely fed by the government? What this means is that you are spending the money you generate from poor students, many of them orphans.

“You also spent N850 million on security, cleaning and fumigation in 2024. What did you fumigate? Is it mosquitoes that took all this money?”

Oshiomhole also criticised JAMB for spending N600 million on local travel.

Oloyede explained that JAMB remitted N4 billion to the Consolidated Revenue Fund in 2024 and received a grant of N6 billion from the Federal Government.

House Committee Finance Chairman Abiodun Faleke wondered why JAMB, a revenue-generating and self-sustaining agency, should rely on federal allocation.

“You remitted N4 billion and got N6 billion from the federal government. Why not keep the N4 billion and we stop the government from funding JAMB?” Faleke asked.

He floated the idea of removing JAMB’s allocation in subsequent budgets unless convincing justification is provided for its reliance on government funding.
