Tambuwal favours leaving the ticket of the party open instead of zoning it to a particular region, most likely in the South.
Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has given the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the choice of either winning the 2023 presidential election or sticking with zoning.
Leaders of the PDP in the South have argued that with the North using eight years in the presidency of President Muhammadu Buhari, it is the turn of the South to produce the next president.
According to The Nation Newspaper, in what appears a repudiation of the zoning arrangement, Tambuwal, has told the leadership and stakeholders in the PDP to choose between zoning of its presidential ticket and winning the election.
Tambuwal, who is eyeing the presidential ticket of the PDP, also said that no single zone can win the presidency alone.

Tambuwalβs position appeared a veiled response to the insistence by the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, that the PDP presidential ticket be zoned to the Southsouth region.
He spoke in Abuja on Tuesday during a meeting with former principal officers of the National Assembly.
The meeting was in continuation of his consultative engagements to garner support for his aspiration.
He urged those clamouring for zoning to consider the demographic composition of the country and the trend in past election results.
