The 2023 presidential race is coming alive with the expected declaration of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, to vie for the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A source close to Obi, the vice presidential candidate of the main opposition political party in 2019, told TheNiche on Wednesday that all is set for his declartion in Anambra, his home state.
“I can tell you on good authority that Obi will sooner than later declare his presidential ambition. He has almost concluded nationwide consultations and I can tell you that the signals are very positive,” the source, who pleaded not to be named as he is not authorized to speak on the matter said on Wednesday.

But investigations by TheNiche revealed that the “sooner than later” date, baring any last minute changes, may be as soon as Friday, March 25.
Having gone round the country consulting with stakeholders, Obi is scheduled to be in Anambra on Thursday where he will confer with stakeholders from his state, including traditional rulers.
That is supposed to be the final lap of the consultations before the declaration.
“But if he does not make the declaration this Friday, then it will be Friday, April 1. Everything is set and the feedbacks from the consultations are heartwarming,” said another source.
Contacted for comments, Obi’s Media Adviser, Barrister Valentine Obienyem, said: “His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, recently promised to speak to Nigerians on the 2023 Presidency. He is touched and grateful for the clamour for him to run.
“I can assure you that Obi will soon speak as promised and when he does, Nigerians will be happy with what he will say.”
A globally respected technocrat and administrator, Obi has come under increasing pressure in recent times to contest the Presidency, with many Nigerians, especially youths, even promising to raise funds for his campaign.
His coming into the race will no doubt change the political calculus not only in the PDP but nationally.
