Folks are gearing up for the general election 11 months out, with 7,009,343 registered to vote in quarter 3 week 10 of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) nationwide by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Those who completed registration were 4,009,361.
Among them, those aged 18-34 years number 2,774,823 and form the largest demographic of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) holders. Meaning youths will power the vote for President, Governors, and lawmakers at federal and state levels in 2023.
Votes will be e-transmitted from polling units, reducing to the barest minimum the chances of rigging, as demonstrated in the transparent, fair, and credible Anambra Governorship ballot on 6 November 2021 won by Charles Soludo.
Nigerian youths now hold the lever in their hands to vote out incompetent, irresponsible, and self-serving leaders in the mould of Muhammadu Buhari and vote in competent, responsible, and selfless ones. Just as Zambian youths did last year.
A massive youth vote powered Hakainde Hichilema home in the ballot on 16 August 2021 in Zambia, which became a beckon of hope for youths agitating for good governance all over Africa.
Hichilema was declared the winner of a bitterly contested presidential election, and incumbent President Edgar Lungu accepted his landslide defeat by more than a million votes and congratulated him.
Hichilema was sworn in on 24 August 2021 without a hitch.
INEC disclosed in its weekly CRV update in Abuja that out of the 7 million new registrants, 4,009,361 completed registration. A total 1,687,540 did online and 2,321,821 physically.
