18th Nestle Milo Basketball Championship: Benue, FCT emerge winners of Central Conference

The Central Conference final matches in the boys and girls categories have been decided at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The curtain raiser was the girls’ final which featured Government Secondary School Gboko, Benue State, and Queen Amina College Kaduna. Benue State flag bearer took control from the first quarter until the final whistle with scores at 49 -15 in favour of girls from Benue State. Coach Andona Zakaa of Benue State said that he would step up preparation for the National final in Asaba. ‘‘I am happy my girls got the ticket to be at the National final in Asaba. We are going to intensify our training’’.

The boys’ final match between host, Kwara, and FCT, was thrilling and sensational. Government Secondary School Karu, Abuja was a hard nut to crack by Unilorin Secondary School Ilorin, Kwara State, with 64-22 points to the disappointment of Ilorin fans who were hoping for Kwara win.

After the match, Mr. Seth Darko, the Nestle branch manager, South West, said that Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship has played a key role in producing many National and international basketball stars. “Some of our champions are currently playing in basketball league in Nigeria as well in USA, Spain, Germany and China.

“This year, our dream is to inspire the students from these 9,000 schools to be the best and to support their drive to succeed and enable them enjoy the true achievement of reaching their personal best.”
