12 die in Kwara road accident

Twelve people lost their lives on Wednesday evening in a road accident involving a trailer and a canter truck along Oko Olowo axis of the Ilorin-Jebba highway, Kwara State.
The trailer was said to be coming from Lagos and heading towards Kano while the other vehicle, which had passengers and cattle on it, was said to be moving from Ilorin to Ogbomoso.
While the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was yet to issue official statement on the accident, an officer of the command confirmed the auto crash.
Several persons who sustained injuries from the accident were taken to a nearby hospital by sympathisers and police officers from the ‘G’ Division, Oloje in Ilorin.

Eyewitnesses said the accident might have been caused by excessive speeding.
FRSC sector commander, Muftau Irekeola, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation, saying he was expecting details from personnel at the scene.
“That we have 15 casualties may not be far from the truth but I am still waiting for details.
“I am waiting for the details from my boys. It was a multiple accident involving a trailer and one Canter truck,” he said.
