Lagos Assembly lawmaker and prominent actor, Desmond Elliot has denied claims he is gay, describing the rumour as a publicity stunt.
Gistlover blog recently published a list of prominent Nigerians claiming they were gay without any evidence to back it up.
In an interview with TVC, which went viral on Friday, Elliot addressed the claims, noting that he would not dignify unfounded accusations with a response. He said, โWhy would I respond to allegations made against me when it does not affect my life either way?
โSecondly, it is an opinion that has been conceived, and I do not think it is necessary for me to confirm whether it is true or not; as long as Iโm affecting people positively, Iโm good.โ
Elliot stressed that individuals’ personal choices are their own, as long as they remain within the law.
โIf you feel you identify as something, as long as it is within the law, that is your choice. People do not have to accept it, but do what you wish.
โSo let me say right here, I am straight. You could not find anyone straighter than me.
โIf some people want to enjoy themselves through publicity, that is up to them, but I do not care. Do what you wish and enjoy yourself, but do it within the law and with consideration for your neighbours.โ
