For three days running, Nigerians on social media have talked about nothing but the ongoing trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

The trends on Twitter have been Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN Onnoghen, Code of Conduct Tribunal, and OnoghenCCTtrial.

The reactions are varied and mostly against the government of Nigeria.

Journalist and columnist, Farooq Kperogi, in Twitter thread on Monday said that to report the CJN on January 12 and for the trial to have commenced on Monday, January 14 means there is something awkward.

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesman, said it is President Muhammadu Buhari who should resign, not Onnoghen.

Many Nigerians believe the arraignment of Onnoghen at the Tribunal is a bid to scuttle the rule of law and provide a leeway for Buhari to coast home to victory without stiff challenge in the February presidential elections.

The South-South governors urged the CJN not to appear at the Tribunal and he seems to heed their advice and, instead, sent a team of 94 lawyers to the Tribunal to represent him.

Nigerians believe the CJN should not attend the trial which according to them would salvage the sanctity of the judiciary.
