Fotoparty is born

-

The Nlele Institute and VAN Lagos, in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Nigeria is organising a bi-monthly visual-leisure event titled Fotoparty, which first edition holds on July 25.

“Photography has long been recognised as a visual language in modern times with the power to communicate reality and perceptions about human conditions that cannot be communicated in any other way,” said a statement announcing the launch of Fotoparty.

Photography, the statement continued, has informed, influenced and educated about humanity through its power to report vividly the way we live and also by challenging the way society is run.

The event will use visual imagery (photography and video art), music, entertainment and fun to rally the public and art-lovers. Visitors will enjoy live musical performances from DJ Afrologic’s electronic music-themed ‘Back 2 D Future of Dance’, which will follow up on the recent Electronic Soundscapes concert.

Fotoparty, the organisers promise, will not only be fun, informal and open to like minds for free; it will also provide a relaxed ambience of visual cocktail, lounge and music with a mixed community and guests.

Venue is the Federal Government Printing Press on Broad Street, Lagos Island, while time is 6pm.

Meanwhile, the Film Sundays event will this month feature Sodiq directed by Adeyemi Michael (UK/Nigeria; 2013). It holds on July 26 by 4pm.

The film is based on the search for a young man from a South London housing estate who in 2008 embarked on the journey to become a doctor and five years later is on trial for murder.

Michael is a successful Nigerian filmmaker based in the United Kingdom, and the film deals with identity which is an issue everyone can relate with.

Film Sundays is the monthly screenings of mostly independent films with interesting/controversial/enlightening topics and engaging plots with which the Nigerian audience can relate.

Organised by Blink Studios and holds on the last Sunday of every month, Film Sundays is in partnership with the Lagos Film Society, a Goethe-Institut initiative. It is supported by Mokolo and Nothing to Do In Lagos?

The free screening event will take place at Stranger Lagos, Lekki Phase I.
