Olusegun Runsewe
Runsewe is currently leading the race for the prize with a point haul of 1,027 ahead of others, and all things being equal, he is tipped to win the trophy.
We gathered that the former Director General of Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) is considered the most improved golfer at the IBB Club.
Our source at the club said: “The ranking of the players for the Cup is determined by their performance in the club’s qualifying tournaments like Saturday Kitty and Monday Mugs as well as other sponsored tournaments.
“While he was the DG of NTDC, he supported professional golf, the Children’s Day Golf Clinic and Valentine Tournament at the club.
“The award was created by the club committee to encourage members to be proactive in club activities and to improve their game.”
The two key scoring events, which the players cannot ignore, are the Monthly Mugs and sponsored tournaments. Each of these events attracts 500 points, while the Saturday Kitty will fetch 300 points.
TheNiche also gathered that the ranking format officially began in May and featured 203 players of the club. Trailing Runsewe for the coveted prize is Mohammed Tarfa, who has 818 points on the board, while Alex Chigbo is in the third place with 778 points.
Other players in the top chart include M. Amaete who is placed fourth with 698 points; O.A. Ajibade is fifth; and Paul Erokoro, who won the 16th edition of the CMCL Open in June, is sixth with a total 662 points.
