Thompson-Herah breaks 33-year-old Olympic record to win women’s 100 meters.

Jamaican’s Elaine Thompson-Herah has set a new Olympic women 100 meters record with a time of 10.61 seconds to win this year’s women’s 100 meters race.

It was a clean sweep for the Jamaicans athletes who carted away all the three available medals in this year’s event.

Nigeria’s representatives in the 100 metres, Blessing Okagbare and Grace Nwokocha, could not make it to the final. While Okagbare

was suspended for failing a drug test, Nwokocha crahed out at the semi final.

Jackson got the bronze medal with a time of 10.76 seconds.

The defending champion , Thompson-Herah, broke the exiting record by 0.01 second to retain her title in a keenly contested encounter among 8 talented ladies

The broken record was set by Florence Griffith Joyner’s in 1988 Seoul Olympics and has existed for for 33 years.

The African challenge led by, Ivorien, Marie-Josée Ta Lou , who occupied the sixth lane faded , when she once against finished 4th to miss out of positions on the podium.

The very impressive Thompson-Herah, had earlier finished third in Jamaican’s trial and went 0.12 seconds of the women’s 100 meters world record with herj winning time. Attention now shifts to the male’s 100 meters semi-finals and final on Sunday.
