POEMS: Inmates of time

Prof Victor U. Chukwuma

By Victor Uzodinma Chukwuma

35. I thought it Love

Nourishing soil,

Flourishing pasture, no more.

Morning shall on our Soul’s alter

Dissect this bond

With vulture’s peck.

Noon will unfold new petals,

In its brilliant beams

Our mirage shall dance last.

Night will surely berth,

In its darkness

I won’t see your colours again.

36. Plea for Life

Genesis of death

Vibrate in the third order.

Before helpless vigil,

I cry:

Be gone hollow Earth,

Be gone crypt,

Pass away.

Why on dirge

In my dawn,

The lane is not halved,

The message undone,

Be gone hollow Earth,

Be gone crypt,

Pass away.

Wait for dusk;

At you I will beckon

When the season dues.

But now

Be gone hollow Earth,

Be gone crypt,

Pass away.
