Oshoala good for Glo-CAF award – Oloyede

Ex-international, Taiwo Oloyede, has said that Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, is good to win the Glo-CAF Woman Player of the Year award billed for Lagos on Thursday, January 8, 2015.

He said: “The player is good to emerge winner at the awards for her brilliant performances this year, and I will not be surprised if that comes to pass.

 

“Forget the fact the Nigeria, through the Super Falconets, failed to win the World Under-17 championship in Canada, having lost to Germany, Oshoala has proved to be a star to reckon with.

 

“We all saw the potential in her in Canada and in Namibia when the Super Falcons defeated the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon to win its seventh African Women Championship (AWC) trophy.”

 

Oshoala will battle for the award alongside Annette Ngo Ndom (Cameroon), Portia Modise (South Africa), Zenatha Coleman (Namibia), and compatriot, Desire Oparanozie playing in the Division 1 Feminine for Guingamp.

 

The dazzling forward is also nominated for the Youth Player of the Year category alongside Uchechi Sunday (Nigeria), Fabrice Ondoa (Cameroon) and Kader Bidimbou (Congo Brazzaville).

 

Florent Ibenge of Congo, Kherireddine Madoui of Algeria, Rigo Gervais of Cote D’Ivoire, Stephen Keshi of Nigeria and Vahid Halilhozic of Algeria national team were nominated for Coach of the Year.

 

Other nominees are the trio of Nigeria, Algeria and Libya listed for National Team of the Year. Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire and Nigeria U-20 for Women’s National Team of the Year. For Club of the Year, Al-Ahly of Egypt, As Vita of Congo, Es-Setif of Algeria and Sewe Sports of Cote d’Ivoire are nominees.

 

In the African Player of the Year, Based in Africa category, the five shortlisted players are Akram Djahnit and El Hedi Belamieri, who both play for Algeria and Es Setif; Firmin Ndombe of Congo and As Vita; Fakhereddine Youssef of Tunisia and CS Sfaxien; and the late Senzo Meyiwa of South Africa and Orlando Pirates.

 

The winners will be decided by votes from the head coaches and technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF.
