Minners rape teenage food hawker to death, police arrest suspects

Police have arrested some miners who allegedly raped to death a Fulani girl aged 13 when she went to hawk fura da nono (ground millet blended with cow milk) to them in the Tipper Garage area in Gwagwalada Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Council Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Ciroma, disclosed to Daily Trust on telephone on Sunday that the child was declared missing after she went to hawk milk on Thursday, and on Friday her corpse was found at the Tipper Garage area.
Ciroma said her private parts were stained with blood and she was taken to the hospital where doctors confirmed she was raped.
“The incident has been reported to the police, and to God be the glory, some miners suspected to be behind the crime have been arrested,” he added.
The incident almost degenerated into violence as Fulani cattle herders massed to the area to attack the miners but were restrained by security agents who doused the tension.
FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident as well as the arrest of seven suspects.
