Labour Party (LP) Kwara State governorship candidate, Mike Omotosho, has promised the residents of more dividends of democracy and to transform the state, if elected on April 11.
He made the pledge when he received Kwara State Man of the Year Award from Triangle Magazine for his “outstanding performance in the area of poverty alleviation and empowerment programme to the youths in the state.”
He urged Nigerian politicians to play the game by the rules and eschew violence in the interest of democracy, and appealed to Kwarans, irrespective of religion and ethnic group, to elect good leaders.
His words: “Unless we come out in large numbers to vote for credible people in the forthcoming elections, we are only wasting our future and prospect of development away.
“I know that there is still hope for this country if good leaders are put in position of authority.”
Omotosho identified prayers, hard work, and integrity as ingredients of building a vibrant nation and emphasised that leaders have a huge role to play in making everyone feel valued.
He disclosed that his foundation, Sustainable Health Initiative (SHI Logistics), founded in 2010, seeks to promote healthcare delivery in the country.
He said SHI Logistics has contributed to reducing the incidence of malaria, pneumonia, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and other diseases around the country, with over 2,500,000 people benefitting from programmes.
“The Foundation has trained over 200 rural community members on vocational skills and provided N10 million micro credit scheme to empower 300 women to start small businesses.
“Up to 500 youths from different local governments in Kwara State were also trained on employability skills, 150 indigent students from primary and secondary schools are on scholarship scheme from the Foundation.
“In August 2014, the Foundation carried out medical mission in 12 communities in four local governments within Kwara State to provide free diagnosis, expert medical advice, and distribute free drugs, wheel chairs, and free mosquitoes nets.
“Over 5,000 community members benefited from the programme.”
Omotosho expressed appreciation to the people for their support, and “I humbly recognise and appreciate God for your selfless contribution always even the renewal of the mandate you gave to me in the past election.”
He urged the people to continue to imbibe the virtues of peace, perseverance, and resilience to ensure the country’s political development.
