Zoning is abolished in Imo politics, APC chief

By Onwukwe Ezeru, Abia

A frontline politician and

chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Sam Iwuagwu, has said those criticizing Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, are ignorant of their shadows.

There has been unconfirmed move by Governor Rochas Okorocha to pencil his son-in-law/Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, as his  possible replacement in 2019 governorship election in Imo State.

But, Iwuagwu who spoke in Umuahia, was reacting to attack on the Chief Press Secretary to Imo State Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, over article on

why Uche Nwosu should be ready to run for Imo Governorship race for 2019,” said that there was no binding document on zoning formular, which must be adhered to in choosing successor to Governor Okorocha.

The APC chieftain decried the purported attack by Prof. E.C. Azubuike on the issue in a local tabloid described the outburst as an invitation to ignite fire in Imo polity, stated that the alleged zoning formula does not exist in any signed document by stakeholders in the state neither has it a place in any constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He challenged Azubuike to substantiate his claims by presenting a written document containing zoning arrangement of leadership positions in the state, contending that the issue at stake remained who will deliver in governance rather than where or which zone the person comes from.

Iwuagwu maintained that the Imo within the six years of Owelle Rochas  Okorocha’s administration has witnessed massive transformation and completely changed from its previous neglect by successive administrations to an envy of other states and wondered why zoning system should be a topical issue when people are looking for quality and better representative leadership that can maintain the current tempo of development and carry the state to

another level.

He maintained that what should pre-occupy the minds of Imolites remains who will

sustain the good legacies of Okorocha and not where or which zone his

successor comes from.

On Ikpeazu’s victory at Supreme Court,

Iwunagwu said that the only option left for the Abia Governor for him was to

defect to APC without further delay.

According to him, Ikpeazu’s

continued stay in PDP would not grantee his second term ambition come 2019.
