The bandits who murdered the District Head of Gada in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Umaru Danbawan Allah, were those he reported to security agents for rerrorising his domain, a Twitter user has alleged.

The Twitter user, @ankaboy, said the bandits, who stormed the village on Tuesday evening with motorcycles, came for revenge because the monarch was the key informant against them.

He regretted that the security agents betrayed the monarch and ratted him to the bandits who came and murdered him.

He said: “The Traditional Leader of Gada in Bungudu has been killed by Bandits because of intelligence he has consistently shared with the security agencies which has led to the arrest of some bandits in the area but were later freed according to residents. People who blame locals should understand the difficulty they go through. He was not only killed but his house was burnt by this reprisal. Who will take this path in this community again?”

The traditional ruler was shot dead and his house set ablaze after refusing to be kidnapped by the bandits.

A report by Sahara Reporters say farming and herding communities in the state have long been terrorised by gangs who raid villages, stealing cattle and kidnap residents for ransom.

In 2019, the state government entered a peace agreement with the gunmen.

About 15 brand new Hilux vehicles and cash gifts were also given to leaders of different ‘repentant’ gangs of bandits by the governor in 2020.

But despite all these, communities in the state are still being attacked and residents kidnapped and/or killed.
