Yoruba nation protesters are currently on the streets of Ibadan to show their displeasure against the raid on the home of Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Sunday Igboho is a Yoruba activist who is demanding the secession of the South West region from Nigeria.
The DSS raided his residence on the early morning of July 1, killing two aides of Igboho during the raid.
But the protesters, who initially mobilized at the premises of Igboho, said he is not a criminal. They also carried placards displaying similar sentiments.
The protesters said they would march to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; and from there proceed to the Government House, amongst other places.
“It is a peaceful demonstration; we are marching there to demand the release of the detained persons. We are not afraid of teargas; we are marching to demand the rights of our people.
“We want them to bring the killers of Adogan and Alfa to book.
“The government must pay the N500m damages as requested by Igboho’s lawyer for the destruction of his house and property during the invasion.
“We want the Obas to make this happen within seven days,” he said.
