By Julius Alabi, Akure

A group under the auspices of Yoruba National Youths both Home and Diaspora has re-echoed the call for Yoruba Nation Autonomy, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expedite action on the demand.

Governors from Southwest states who met in Lagos on Monday had in their communique flayed in strong terms the group of people agitating for Yoruba nation.

The Governors who attended the meeting at the Lagos House are Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun) and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).

The group said the statement of the governors was nothing short of provocation because groups agitating for Yoruba independence or autonomy are doing so legally in the confines of the law.

In a statement jointly signed by the Yoruba National Youth Leader Diaspora, Prophet Ayodele Ologunloluwa and Comrade Oyegunle Oluwamayowa Omotoyole [Omayor]] home based said the quest for Yoruba Nation self-determination is non-negotiable.

The youths said “the statement of the governors was nothing short of provocation and reckless because groups agitating for Yoruba independence or autonomy are responsible people of notes.

According to them, they are going to deploy all means to ensure that the dreams of Yoruba Nation is achieved.

“The governors statement at the end of the meeting sounds shameless to us. You adopt the anthem and security outifit of Yoruba Nation but you condemn them in such violent terms? That’s very disrespectful of Arakunrin Akeredolu’s memory. You may think you own power today, the records are being kept for you.

They emphasised that with the present spate of insecurity and maladministration of the affairs of Nigeria, there is no better alternative than the Yorubas to fight for autonomy in order to develop.

They stressed that Yoruba traditional rulers and leaders should all come together for the struggle, as unity among Yoruba is a sine qua non for success.

“We will continue to show the world our plight and that the Yoruba Nation Autonomy will come to reality in no distant time”, it maintained.

Let us say here that there is nothing to celebrate on June 12 Democracy Day it is lacking anything worthwhile to celebrate as Nigerians are wallowing in abject poverty.

“What are we celebrating in June 12 while people are dying of hunger or Unemployment or how do we celebrate in the midst of escalating prices of essential commodities in the country. There is insecurity, kidnapping all over Nigeria and dividends of democracy are far from the mass of Nigerians”, they lamented.

They warned the Federal government to do something before June ending ultimatum given it if rhey want peace and enjoined all Yoruba at home and in diaspora to support the ongoing efforts of the youths towards liberating the people of Yorubaland.

They therefore appealed to the Traditional rulers in Youruba land to support their aspiration saying that self-determination of the Yoruba land was inevitable as people could no longer continue with the suffering unleashed on them by the Federal Government.
