The mother of Igboho made headlines in September 2021 when she and scores of supporters and allies of her son visited Igboho town to offer prayer to ‘nullify’ the effect of the visit of a cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, to the town.

Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has lost his mother, Mrs Adeyemo.
Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, confirmed this in a tweet, stating that she died on Saturday.
“I can confirm today Saturday 22nd of July 2023 that Dr. Chief Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho) mother died,” Mr Koiki tweeted.
In a post on Instagram, Igboho lamented that he did not want his mother to leave the world yet.

He added that his mother’s death was too much for him to bear.
“My heart is heavy. I do not want you to leave just yet. I’m left alone in this complicated world. Mama mi,who would I turn to? It’s hard for me to say goodbye.
“The cold hands of death took
It wriggles out from its dark depths and snatched you away. Mama mi, this is too much for me to bear. Too much,” he wrote.
Igboho has been unable to leave Benin Republic since his arrest in 2021 when he attempted to travel to Germany with his wife after fleeing from Nigerian authorities over his call for an independent Yoruba Nation.
