Ongoing worker verification at the local government level in Yobe State has led to a saving of N169.495 million per month, says Governor Ibrahim Gaidam.
The governor disclosed this during the swearing in of members of the newly reconstituted State Judicial Service Commission in Damaturu on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Gaidam said that cleansing the local government salary bill of ghost workers would save up to N250 million monthly by the end of the exercise.
According to him, “This means that per annum, up to N3 billion will be saved from local government salaries.
“There is a reason we are committed to the success of this verification exercise. Ghost workers sap the resources of local governments and cripple their capacity to deliver basic services. With these savings now, the local governments can drill additional boreholes, replenish drug inventories at local clinics and proivide other much-needed services.”
