The World Trade Organisation”s (WTO) new Director General, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, shines brilliantly wherever she finds herself.
The Vice-Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, stated this while eulogizing the newly-elected director-general of the WTO.
He also described her emergence as historic, stressing that by her election, Okonjo-Iweala became the first female and first African WTO director-general.
Obi, who had supported Okonjo-Iweala’s candidacy, expressed delight at her emergence.
Obi said that he had high confidence that Okonjo-Iweala has the ability to draw from her knowledge, skills and experience from the economic and financial sectors to lead the WTO to greater heights.
The Anambra State former governor pointed out that Okonjo-Iweala’s track record of success, both in Nigeria as Finance Minister and across the world, where she successfully served in various high profile positions in many global organizations and agencies, including the World Bank, stood her out as the right candidate for the job.
Obi further commended the member-nations of WTO which, he said, put merit above sentiments in electing a very capable person for the job.
He also appreciated Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, for recognizing the great potentials in Okonjo-Iweala and nominated her for the job, noting that her emergence in the position is a huge blessing to the country.
Obi prayed God to give Okonjo-Iweala the wisdom to deliver on her new mandate.
“May God Almighty grant you the wisdom and strength to succeed in this globally powerful organization,” he prayed.
Also, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has felicitated with the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on “her well deserved election as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO),” saying her appointment was a thing of joy to Nigeria and Nigerians in particular and the world in general.
Uzodimma said that her appointment as the boss of the global body not only brings honour to Nigeria, but shows how Nigerians have continued to impact the world positively.
Uzodimma said Okonjo-Iwuala’s track record of achievements as a renowned development economist places her in a position to take the WTO to a level that the whole world will be proud of because of het intelligence, meticulousness and education.
