Women in Ondo State have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the March 28 presidential election in the country.
They noted that contrary to what the opposition parties and some critics would want the world to believe, “President Goodluck has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that he is a visionary and pragmatic leader of the people.”
The rally by the women wing of the PDP at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in support of the second term bid of President Goodluck Jonathan and all PDP candidates in the state, which was attended by the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, was the first of its kind..
Addressing Mrs. Jonathan, the women said, “We want to say that your husband has imparted positively on the lives of the people in the country with the numerous people-oriented projects his administration has executed and still executing in all parts of the country.”
Responding, the First Lady urged the women to vote for President Jonathan and all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the March 28 polls.
Mrs. Jonathan noted that “I am here to tell our women in Ondo State to be politically alert and to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and not the opposition party.”
She advocated for politics without bitterness so as to ensure peace in the country urging women to warn their children not to be used during the period of the election to foment trouble.
According to her, “We need to go back to our various homes to talk to our children and husbands to preach politics of peace, tolerance and love to them so that peace could reign supreme in the country during and after the elections.”
She assured that her husband’s administration would do more in the second term, noting that if the administration could do so much in six years, it would definitely triple the pace of development in the country when re-elected.
