As PDP, SDP clash over posters
An unidentified woman was shot death Wednesday night during a scuffle at a political rally in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
Many supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from ward 8, Abeokuta South local government area were also seriously injured and are presently receiving treatment at various private hospitals within the area.
The crisis, according to findings by an online news occurred after APC candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Hon. Segun Williams, who is campaigning for his re-election to the lower house in Abuja finished his campaign rally.
The thugs who shot sporadically were halted in quest for blood by vigilante group in the area. The boys reportedly fled after the counter-attack by the vigilantes.
Dangerous weapons like guns, charms, broken bottles, cudgels, knives and stones were used during the crisis.
Many residents and shop owners in the area scampered for safety as they hurriedly locked their houses and shops.
Report have it that a fight broke out around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday night when the money that was supposed to be shared among the party supporters was stolen by some touts and political thugs.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the Command has commenced investigation on the matter.
Adejobi, however, said that the police have deployed its officers to the scene for further investigation.
In another development, there was pandemonium around Ikereku area of Abeokuta last night when supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the Social Democratic Party, SDP engaged in a free for all fight causing unrest in the area.
It was reported that the crisis occurred when supporters of the senatorial candidates of both parties clashed over defacing and damaging of posters.
It was gathered that the SDP campaign train of Senator Gbenga Obadara had gone to meet with some party members around Sodeke, Olumo axis of the area were many posters of their candidate was defaced.
As they were leaving the area, the campaign train of the PDP candidate, Mrs Bisola Sodipo-Clark was going into the area.
One of the residents told our correspondent that the PDP supporters unknowingly to them were pasting the posters of their candidate on that of the SDP candidate which led to accusations and counter-accusations.
The argument then turned sour, as both parties freely used dangerous weapons and many people were severely injured as the area was later deserted.
