Woman faces trial over death of three-year-old girl

A Lagos High Court  Igbosere on Monday remanded one Rukayat Amisu in prison custody over manslaugther.

Amisu, an ex-staff of Olab Private School, a Lagos-based nursery school was arraigned by the Lagos State prosecutor Babatunde Sunmonu before Justice Adedayo Akintoye for allegedly killing a three-year-old girl due to negligence.

Amisu, whose residential address was not given was docked  on a one-count charge of manslaughter.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on October 21, 2015, about 10.00a.m. at Olab Private School, at No. 11, Idowu Street, Lagos Island.

He narrated how the defendant unlawfully killed one Aliyah Ahmed by negligently allowing her to be burnt by hot water.

“The defendant negligently sat the little girl on top of a container containing hot water and the girl fell inside the hot water,” the prosecutor submitted.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 227 of the Criminal Law Lagos State, 2011.

After listening to the one-count charge against her, Amisu pleaded not guilty to the charge.The defendant’s Counsel, Mr A. O. Ladipo, told the court that he has filed a bail application.

But Justice Akintoye adjourned the case until March 11 for hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison.
