Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has revealed why he supported the emergence of Senator Godswill Akapbio as the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
According to him, Akpabio gave him N200 million in 2014 while he was campaigning for his first term in office as a governor.
The ex-governor made the disclosure while speaking during his special thanksgiving service organised by his family at the St. Peters Deanery, Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor area of the state, on Sunday.

During the speech Wike said he backed the former Akwa Ibom State governor because one good turn deserves another, insisting Akpabio against all odds backed his governorship ambition in 2015.
Speaking during the service, he said: “When I was running in 2014 and 2015 he came out and supported me. He gave me N200m for that election. That is why I said one good turn deserves another. I supported him this time and I thank God he won”.
Responding, Akpabio quickly said the money he gave Wike for his 2015 election was not from the purse of Akwa Ibom State m.
The Senate President further clarified that the N200 million was from his savings as a managing director of a telecoms company before he became a governor.
