The newly appointed Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has stated that street trading is henceforth prohibited in the nation’s capital.
He made this known during a recent meeting with the management staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority.
According to the former Rivers State governors, corn sellers on Abuja roads serve as informants to criminals, who pretend as if they are patronizing them, while spying on unsuspecting citizens.

Speaking during the meeting he said: “Street trading is prohibited. People selling corn will drop their waste indiscriminately and these are the things that cause insecurity.
“Criminals come to buy and use the opportunity to spy and give information to criminals. It is imperative we clear street hawkers.”
The minister went on to say Nigeria’s capital is littered with illegal structures and shanties and that his administration is prepared to demolish them no matter how highly placed the owners are.
“Development control is a serious crisis area we have to stop. Why are there illegal structures and shanties everywhere? We will demolish any illegal structure. No matter how highly placed, the structure will come down.” Wike added.
