Wife of Joseph Wayas dies 25 days after husband’s demise

Wife of late Ex-Senate President,  Joseph Wayas, Mrs. Mary Abiola Wayas, has died 25 days after her husband’s death.

An online medium, 365Daily quoted a news alert on Africa Independent Television, AIT, Monday, that the 78years-old wife of the late senator, died in a London hospital.

Joseph Wayas Jnr confirmed that she died on December 12, 2021 after a brief illness.

Wayas, who was the Senate president in the Second Republic between 1979 and 1983, died in a London hospital at the age of 80 years.

Reports said that Mary is survived by five children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

According to Wayas Jnr, the late Mary Wayas was a trained Secretary. She worked in several prestigious firms in Russell Square, London; while supporting her husband, who was then an overseas student in the UK.

Governor Ben Ayade has described the news of the death of Lady Wayas as shocking and devastating.

He said “it is a blow too heavy to take, especially when we are still struggling to come to terms with the painful death of her husband and father, Dr. Joseph Wayas.”

The Cross River state governor further described the death of Lady Wayas as depressing and a great loss for both her family and the state.
