In a letter dated August 2, 2023, the NLC wrote Tinubu through Senate President Godswill Akpabio, saying the government breached an agreement with the labour unions by going further with more anti-people policies.

The letter titled “Nigerian workers and peoples are undergoing massive suffering and deprivation as a result of your policies” was signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja.

The NLC said it is protesting to show that the government is drifting into dictatorship, to show government’s act of bad faith by refusing to give effect to the resolutions earlier made among others.

The union stood its ground that the government must reverse all anti-poor policies, release eight months withheld salaries of university lecturers and workers, fix local refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna among others.
