… vows to create opportunities for the zone
By Oscar Kambona
Hon. Dr Dame Blessing Nwagba, the Abia South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday gave her major reason for running for the senate.
The mission is simply to attract the dividends of democracy to the Senatorial Zone through quality representation.
Also she promised to create great opportunities that will benefit her people.
Nwagba made this disclosure while addressing her colleagues, members of Aba Sports Club 1926, when she visited to abreast them of her senatorial ambition.
Nwagba, a two term Abia State House of Assembly member lamented the lack of federal presence in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, stressing that her journey to the senate will restore Aba’s lost glory, as she will ensure that proper attention is given to the city.
Nwagba added that attracting the dividends of democracy and helping to create more channels for the growth and development of businesses in Aba and its environs will be topmost on her agenda as Abia South senator.
The former lawmaker said that she has the intellect, the education, requisite experience, capacity, competence and whatever it takes to represent the Senatorial Zone adequately, adding that she is well prepared for the task ahead.
The 2019 Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate explained further that her going to the Senate will help not only in addressing the infrastructural decadence in Aba but will more importantly help create a balance in the inequality against the Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, which she said is the only Federal Constituency in Abia yet to produce a senator.
Said Nwagba, “It’s my pleasure to be here to speak to you, my colleagues this evening and I don’t take it for granted. There’s an adage that says that one must look good from home before heading outside and I’m one of you and I’m here to see you as a member of this club.
“Why do I want to contest? The reasons are very obvious. We’re all aware of our problems in Aba as a people.
“We’re aware of our infrastructural decadence, the utter neglect of our zone, which is affecting us all as many people can no longer drive their big cars around.
“This is because of the situation of the roads, our unemployment situation, our economic situation, our security situation although it’s not as terrible as other places which I must acknowledge but it can be better.
“Aba and Abia South, in general, is highly endowed that we can turn this place around and as for me, going to the Senate to bring the dividends of democracy to alleviate poverty in our state is what I should do and I can do it because I have the experience.
“We have three Federal constituencies in Abia South; Aba North and South, Ukwa East and Ukwa West and Obingwa-Ugwunagbo, we have six local governments in Abia South and it’s only Aba where I come from that has not produced a senator before in the zone.
“We’re not talking about Aba in terms of indigenous people, we’re talking about this urban setting and her residents. We’re all one and the economy of Abia State is owned by us.
“Obingwa has had it for 16 years Ukwa has had it for eight years Aba has never had it. They treat us as if we’re nobody and that’s not acceptable. You and I are here and we’re qualified to go to the Senate.
“I have the experience, charisma, education and whatever it takes to represent us and represent us well. I can create the opportunity to connect our business people to the places necessary to grow their businesses.”
Nwagba was given a warm welcome by the members of the Aba Sports Club 1926 as one of them who has distinguished herself in all positions she has served.
