Why club owners axed Nembe, FC Taraba, Crown FC

The fog over the indefinite suspension slammed on three clubs in the Nigerian domestic league – Nembe City FC, FC Taraba and Crown FC – from all activities of the association is getting clear.

The leadership of the Nigeria Premier League Club Chairmen and Managers (club owners) explained that the three clubs disregarded the directives of the body by accepting membership of an interim league committee of the crisis-ridden Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which contradicted the position of the body.

Acting Secretary of the body, Alloy Chukwuemeka, said: “Their failure to abide with the directives of the body actually warranted the suspension, and nothing more.”

The suspension was part of the decision taken by the executive committee meeting of the body on Friday, September 5, in Abuja, and to be presented to the next general meeting of the association for ratification.

Accordingly, the suspension order also extended to the persons of Victor Baribote, Fatai Olayinka and Tijani Babangida, for flaunting the directives of the body and involvement in anti-association activities.

The body, however, expressed appreciation to its acting chairman, Isaac Danladi of Nasarawa United; Okey Ibe of Heartland FC; and Babangida Little of Kano Pillars for their courage and good comradeship in rejecting membership of the said committee and for their obedience to the body’s directive.

In another development, the body commiserated with the families of two of its members – Shehu Gusau and Ayo Bello – who passed on recently.

The body prayed for the repose of their souls and approved the sum of N500,000 for each of the bereaved families.
