The management of Fidelity Bank Plc on Tuesday debunked a story in the social media that the bank was probing its immediate past Managing Director, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo.

There have been insinuations on some online platforms (not TheNiche) of a rift between Okonkwo and his successor, Mrs. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe.

But the bank pushed back forcefully on Tuesday, calling the story false and malicious.

In a statement titled, “Rebuttal of false information,” Ejike Ndiulo Brand and Communications, said the bank’s “attention has been drawn to false information posted on some online platforms alleging that the Board of Directors of Fidelity Bank Plc has approved a probe of our former Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo.”

“The story is entirely false, malicious and should be discountenanced,” the statement read.

Fidelity Bank insisted that “Mr.  Okonkwo served the bank meritoriously as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer between 2014 and 2020 and led his team to achieve impressive results.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Board of Directors continues to hold Mr. Okonkwo in high esteem and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”
