The Social Media has been busy with the story that General Overseer of the Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, was denied the American visa on January 29.
A report by Thisday Newspaper said the influential Bishop was denied the visa when he showed up at the US consulate in Lagos. But Abovi Ugboma, popularly known as Bovi, was issued the visa.
Almost all the prominent news websites in Nigeria, except TheNiche, have been feasting on the story when Thisday first published it.
But a tweet from the US Embassy in Nigeria said the report is false.
“#FalseNews Alert! Be advised, the reports making the rounds about a visa being denied to Nigerian Bishop Oyedepo are false.
If you have seen this manufactured item in the media, help defeat this #misinformation by communicating to everyone that it is completely false,” the tweet from the embassy’s verified tweeter handle stated.
