“I am very excited and looking forward to the wonderful challenge to be a part of the Tinsel train, hoping that with the commendable cast and crew, we’ll all be able to ride the Tinsel train to higher glory,” said the British-Nigerian actor, who will play Nosa.
He urged Tinsel fans to tune in to the daily soap opera because “Nosa is certainly going to bring to the screen many hilarious moments laced with a few truths and plenty of wisdom”.
The television, stage and film veteran, whose career as an actor spans over 30 years, will bring his craft and talent as a trained actor to DStv viewers come July 7, as his onscreen character, Nosa, comes to Tinsel. Ojo started his acting career as a child prodigy on Nigeria’s first television station WNTV in the early 80s while turning into a professional actor at 21 in the United Kingdom, starring in both TV and stage productions.
He can be seen in Oliver Parker’s Johnny English Reborn with Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), as a doctor in John Mcdonald’s The Guard, alongside Oscar winner, Brendan Gleeson, and Don Cheadle. He has made guest appearances in The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency alongside Jill Scott and played a rebel army commander in NBC’s The Philanthropist with James Purefoy.
Ojo runs a yearly festival titled ‘New Nigeria Cinema Day’ at the British Film Institute (BFI) in London and is currently set to produce and direct his first short film, The Ghost of Tarkwa Bay.
The charismatic, charming, well-spoken gentleman extraordinaire is popular for his television series, Meet The Adebanjos, the hit TV series which depicts the hilarious lives of a Nigerian family living in London. The show, which has won several awards and is popular in Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana and Great Britain, is the third most watched comedy show in South Africa. In 2013, he was best actor in a film at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards for his serious but charming role as Akin in the film, Phone Swap. The film, which consequently travelled across the world to Tokyo, Paris, London and Berlin, is to date one of the most successful films to cross over to an international audience from Nigeria. He was also nominated at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) for his role in the same movie.
He is not the only one excited about his role, as Africa Magic’s Regional Director, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, said they are very proud of Ojo’s addition to the fantastic Tinsel line-up. “(It) further reiterates our commitment not only to identifying and developing new talents, but also working with the best in the TV and film industry. This is as a result of his track record as an established and professional actor.”
