The Voice of Nigeria (VON) has confirmed the death of its Hausa service correspondent, Hamisu Danjibga.

Mr Danjibga was found dead in a soakaway pit in his house on Wednesday three days after he was declared missing.

In a statement on Thursday signed by the Director General of VON, Osita Okechukwu, the media organisation said: “It is with heavy heart that the staff and management of Voice of Nigeria (VON) announce the murder of Hamisu Danjibga, our correspondent who was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday, 18th September, 2023, by terrorists at Zamfara State.

“Late Hamisu Danjibga was one of VON’s longest serving Hausa service correspondents. He was a dedicated and diligent reporter and served in different capacities in his long career.”

The statement commiserated with the bereaved family and urged security operatives to fish out those who committed the act.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) also spoke on the death of the journalist in a statement.

“Zamfara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists regret to announce the death of Hamisu Danjibga a reporter with Voice of Nigeria (VON) whose body was found in a sock away behind his house three days after missing.

“The discovery of his corpse was a result of an unpleasant odour observed by Islamiya Children in the evening of Wednesday 20th September 2023 who drew the attention of their teachers.

“After breaking the soak away the body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbours. His funeral rites have since been observed according to Islamic injunctions,” Ibrahim Ahmad, the NUJ secretary in Zamfara State said.
